Meet Haley Matson: The Newest Attorney at McIntyre Elder Law

Welcome Haley Matson

Please join McIntyre Elder Law in welcoming our newest attorney, Haley Matson, to the firm. Haley will be serving clients in our Charlotte, NC office.

Hello, I'm Attorney Haley Matson!

As one of the newer attorneys at McIntyre, here is a little bit about me. I grew up near Waxhaw, North Carolina, where I spent almost all of my childhood. During high school, I participated in mock trial and competitive swimming. The practice of law has been exciting to me ever since I can remember. My parents were big on watching the news, and as a kid, I was able to absorb some of the current events. I was also very good at negotiating with my parents for extra toys!

When it was time to participate in something in high school, I picked a mock trial. I got to be both the plaintiff’s and defendant’s attorney while there, and I enjoyed building the cases and presenting them. When I went to college, there was no mock trial group, so I participated in Model UN, where I was able to travel to multiple national conferences and practice my skills that would be relevant to being an attorney, like drafting documents, negotiating, and speaking in front of a group.

Education

I went to Wingate University, in Monroe, NC, for my undergraduate degree. I hold a Bachelor’s in Political Science. The goal with my degree was to learn about things I was curious about, and take even more skills to law school in the future.

While applying to law schools, I wanted to go somewhere different. I landed at Stetson Law in Gulfport, Florida, and graduated with my J.D. I wasn’t sure exactly what type of law I wanted to practice, but I knew that I enjoyed solving problems. So, I landed at a financial institution regulatory compliance consulting firm. While providing relevant experience, professional growth, and an excellent team, I was still itching for that problem solving.

Why McIntyre?

That’s how I ended up at McIntyre! Especially after law school, my parents and grandparents would always ask questions about their legal matters, including questions about their wills, potential trusts, their properties, among other things. These questions were very interesting to me, and I decided that I wanted to formally go into an area of law where I could help folks with these exact questions and more. I knew that I wanted to help not only my family, but others in North Carolina to develop estate plans to make things more streamlined and efficient for their families.

Now, I get to solve problems and help people every day. I work with clients from all over North Carolina to develop estate plans, assist with probate, assist with executorships, and draft and plan trusts.

A little more about me: I live in South Charlotte, I am getting married at the end of April, and we have two dogs: Babi and Coco. In my spare time, I enjoy reading science fiction, swimming, playing with our dogs, and playing games.
