Today, we are excited to officially introduce our newest attorney, Josh Hunter, who joins our team after a period of intensive training and apprenticeship within the firm.

A Commitment to Excellence in Elder Law

Elder law is a focused practice area; estate planning, probate, trust administration, guardianship and long-term care benefits. Our attorneys undergo training not just in legal concepts, but in how to apply them creatively and strategically to serve clients and protect families.

The legal profession has historically been an apprenticeship field, and we still embrace that philosophy. Josh has spent months learning side-by-side with out attorneys; observing client meetings, managing legal research, and gaining real-world experience in probate and estate planning strategy.

Meet Attorney Josh Hunter

Academic Path and Legal Education

Josh completed his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) where he majored in History. Studying history sharpened his perspective on culture, society, and how past systems shape current legal structures; skills that naturally lend themselves to the legal profession.

He went on to attend Elon University School of Law, known for its hands-on approach to legal education. Josh describes law school as challenging but transformative. It strengthened his confidence, sharpened his analytical thinking, and revealed his ability to excel under pressure.

Josh didn’t stop there. Pursuing his personal interest in environmental stewardship, he earned a Master’s in Environmental Law and Policy through a joint program with Vermont Law and Graduate School, a nationally recognized leader in environmental and policy studies.

A Passion for Nature, Learning, and Problem Solving

Josh grew up in the small town of Albemarle, North Carolina, near Morrow Mountain State Park and Badin Lake. From an early age, he spent countless hours outdoors; hiking, exploring, and eventually practicing wildlife photography, submitting his images to research databases to support species tracking.

He still dedicates time each day to walking in nature, noting how it increases his clarity, reduces stress, and fuels creativity.

In addition to his love of the outdoors, Josh enjoys strategy-based hobbies such as Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and Pokémon. These games require problem-solving within structures rules — much like legal analysis. As Josh puts it, building a winning strategy in Magic often feels a lot like building a case: finding the right pieces, adjusting the approach, and discovering the solution only after thoughtful research and creativity.

He also prioritizes physical fitness through powerlifting, believing strongly in the connection between physical health, mental focus, and professional performance.
