Meet John Miller, III
At McIntyre Elder Law, we’re always excited to welcome talented attorneys who bring valuable experience and dedication to serving our clients. One such addition to our team is John Miller III, who is now part of our Hendersonville, North Carolina office, serving Henderson County, Transylvania County, Brevard, Asheville, and Buncombe County.
In a recent conversation with Greg McIntyre, John shared his background, expertise, and vision for helping families in the region with estate planning and elder law. Let’s get to know him better!
John Miller III: A NC Native with Deep Legal Roots
John is no stranger to the western North Carolina area. He grew up in Asheville and attended AC Reynolds High School before heading east for higher education.
His academic journey took him to Wake Forest University, where he became a proud Demon Deacon. For those unfamiliar, the unique team name originated from a radio announcer’s remark about their aggressive style of play, and it stuck!
After Wake Forest, John continued his studies at Campbell University School of Law in Buies Creek, North Carolina, which he describes as “law school boot camp.” Campbell Law was known for its rigorous curriculum, shaping strong and competent attorneys ready to serve North Carolina’s communities.
A Career Built on Real Estate Law
John brings extensive experience in real estate law, having spent years in the Triangle area, overseeing thousands of real estate transactions. His work included:
- Conducting title searches
- Handling closings
- Navigating property ownership complexities
- Ensuring smooth transfers of real estate assets
With such a strong foundation in property law, transitioning into estate planning and elder law was a natural progression. As Greg McIntyre points out, understanding real estate ownership is crucial in estate planning since, for many people, their home is their most valuable asset.
Bringing Expertise to Hendersonville & Beyond
John is excited about his new role in Hendersonville and is dedicated to expanding the office’s reach. His goal is to help more families in Transylvania County, Brevard, and other surrounding areas with their estate planning needs.
He sees Brevard as an underserved area for estate planning and aims to provide valuable guidance to residents looking to protect their assets, plan for long-term care, and ensure their wishes are carried out properly.
A Shift in Perspective: From Transactions to Relationships
John admits that over the years, his approach to client interactions has evolved. While earlier in his career, he was more task-oriented, he now finds greater fulfillment in getting to know his clients personally.
“I enjoy finding out more about the person… whether we went to the same high school, enjoy the same restaurant, or have similar life experiences.”
– John Miller III
This relationship-driven approach is especially important in estate planning, where understanding a client’s values, goals, and family dynamics plays a crucial role in crafting the right plan.
